Dayanita Singh: A aventura de uma fotógrafa is the catalogue which accompanied artist Dayanita Singh’s Dancing with my Camera exhibition at the Serralves Museum in Oporto.
On the cover, the artist’s portrait faces the reader in the eye, sparking curiosity. In an invitation to dive into the Singh’s world, the flyleaves present a selection of works by the artist, unveiling her universe. The book’s small and maleable format is intended to be held in one hand as a paperback book. It provides a concise introduction to the artist’s practice which can be carried everywhere easily, in keeping with Singh’s spirit of dissemination of the artwork.
The bi-lingual publication explores central themes in the artist’s work, such as the archive, the book, and the intersections of architecture and music. It is structured in three parts and includes a bespoke visual essay by Singh; a section of written essays by Stephanie Rosenthal, Kajri Jain, Ahona Palchoudhuri, and Teju Cole, contextualising the artist’s practice; and a selection of exhibition views at Serralves.
